To watch above the surface while staying hidden
**Tiktaalik** had a flat, crocodile-like head with eyes set high on top, much like a crocodile today. That layout let it lurk just under the surface of shallow water, its body hidden while it watched for prey or movement above. The fossil even hints that it spent time propped up in the shallows rather than swimming in open water.
