Robots From Animals
Boston Dynamics studied animal movement to build its walking robots. Watching how a dog catches itself after a stumble taught engineers how to keep a four-legged robot upright on ice or stairs.
Other labs went softer. Octopus-inspired robots, made of bendy silicone with air-filled chambers instead of motors, have no hard skeleton. By squeezing and reshaping, they can slip through a gap far smaller than their own body, just as a real octopus pours itself through a crack.

Insect wings show how to fly something tiny. Their flexible, twisting beat keeps a bug stable in a gust, which is exactly the problem facing insect-sized drones that fixed propellers cannot solve.
Notice the pattern across this whole lesson: nobody simply glued a leaf or a wing onto a machine. The real skill of biomimicry is translating a biological idea into engineering, then building it from materials we can actually work with. Nature is the world's oldest, most patient design lab.
