On average, a Neanderthal skull held a bit more brain than a modern human one, roughly **1,500 cc versus 1,400 cc**. Size is not the same as smarts, though. Much of that extra volume sat at the back of the head, in regions tied to vision and controlling a stocky, powerful body.
