Three Biases to Know

  • Loss aversion: losing $100 hurts about twice as much as finding $100 feels good.
  • Anchoring: the first number you hear drags every later estimate toward it, which is why agents show an overpriced house first.
  • Confirmation bias: you hunt for evidence that fits your belief and skim past what contradicts it.

These once protected us, when sticking with a route that worked yesterday beat gambling on an untested one. Awareness will not erase them, but it lets you slow down and double-check when the stakes are high.
