Breath strips fuel vapor
A candle burns vaporized wax, and that thin layer of hot vapor is easy to push away — once it's gone, the flame has nothing left to burn. A bonfire holds so much heat that it keeps boiling off new fuel faster than any wind can clear it, so blowing only feeds it more oxygen.
