Zeno's paradox of motion stumped philosophers for 2,000 years, and it took calculus to resolve it. The idea that an infinite sum of shrinking intervals can equal a finite total now powers everything from computing pi to pricing financial options.
Infinite series let us turn unworkable continuous problems into workable discrete approximations. Image compression, search rankings, and weather forecasts all rely on infinite sums that are cleverly truncated once the extra terms barely move the result. What looked like an impossible puzzle turned out to be a foundation of modern computation.
