LESSON 1 · Think Like a Mathematician
Beauty in Proof
A great proof is prized not only for being correct, but for being elegant. Mathematicians call a proof beautiful when it reveals a deep connection using almost no machinery. Paul Erdos liked to imagine a celestial "Book" that held the single perfect proof of every theorem.

This taste for beauty is not decoration. Chasing it has repeatedly led to ideas that later turned out to be essential in physics, cryptography, and computer science. Equations that simply feel right have a habit of describing reality with startling accuracy.
