Fractional Dimensions
Classic geometry uses whole numbers: a line is 1D, a square is 2D, a cube is 3D. Fractals break that rule. A jagged curve can have a dimension like 1.26, sitting between a line and a plane.
The extra fraction is not a typo. It measures how thoroughly the shape twists and folds to fill the space around it — something a single whole number simply cannot capture.

This fractional dimension is really a roughness score. A perfectly smooth curve scores 1. The more a line wrinkles and detours, the higher its dimension climbs toward 2.
A quick way to picture it: a straight road is 1D, but a tangled mountain trail packs far more length into the same map. The trail's higher dimension is geometry's way of saying it is rougher.
