Mostly learned culture, not fixed acoustics.
Major chords sit near a 4:5:6 frequency ratio, minor chords near 10:12:15, so they genuinely sound different. But hearing major as happy and minor as sad is largely a learned Western habit — some cultures barely draw that line, or reverse it.
