Three Traps to Beat

Trust the order, but watch the three classic slips. First, division and multiplication share equal rank, so read them left to right: 12 ÷ 3 × 2 = 8, not 2. Second, implicit multiplication around a fraction confuses even calculators — 1 ÷ 2x parses two ways, and different models return different answers. Third, watch tight-binding exponents inside longer expressions, where a missed step flips your result.

Rebuild confidence with one rule: when in doubt, bracket it. Writing (1 ÷ 2) × x or 1 ÷ (2x) removes every ambiguity. Professionals who know PEMDAS cold still bracket their own work — not for themselves, but to protect the reader.
