LESSON 5 · Fractions Demystified
Useful Equivalents to Memorize
Certain conversions come up so frequently they are worth memorizing: 1/2 = 0.5, 1/4 = 0.25, 3/4 = 0.75, 1/5 = 0.2, 1/8 = 0.125, 1/3 is approximately 0.333. Having these anchor conversions ready lets you estimate and verify calculations without reaching for a calculator.

In daily life, decimals feel more intuitive for comparison. Is 5/8 more or less than 2/3? Convert: 0.625 vs. 0.667 — the second is larger. Decimal form makes magnitude comparison effortless, which is why prices, measurements, and statistics use decimals rather than fractions.
