LESSON 5 · Fractions Demystified
Why Both Forms Stay
Fractions and decimals describe the same quantities, so why keep both? Fractions stay exact even when a decimal cannot: 1/3 is precise, while 0.333 is only a rounded snapshot. Decimals, in turn, make size easy to compare and to feed into a calculator. The skill is choosing the form that fits the job.

Calculators default to decimals but humans often prefer fractions for cooking and construction. Translating between 0.375 and 3/8 instantly is the mark of genuine numerical literacy — the ability to switch representations on the fly that makes math practical.
