LESSON 6 · Fractions Demystified
Percentages Everywhere
That "75% off" sign is really the fraction 3/4 wearing a costume. Interest rates, test scores, poll results, battery icons — all of them lean on percentages to express a proportion in one tidy number.
The payoff of fluency is freedom: when you can slide between fractions, decimals, and percentages without thinking, no label can quietly mislead you. It is one of the most useful everyday math skills there is.

Catching Number Tricks
Fluency lets you spot lies hidden in numbers. A "50% off" sale that follows a quiet "100% markup" just returns the price to where it started.
And a glowing "30% improvement" means nothing until you know the base it grew from. The same +30 looks heroic against a base of 100 and trivial against a base of 100,000 — a gap that marketers, politicians, and reporters lean on every day.
