Heights You Can't Climb

Pythagoras can help when you know two side lengths in a right triangle. To measure a tall object from the ground, you need either another measured length, such as the slanted ladder length, or trigonometry if you are using an angle. The right habit is to draw the triangle first, label what you truly know, and choose the tool that matches the known quantities.
