Infinity in Calculus
Infinity is not just philosophy — calculus runs on it. A limit asks where a value heads as it goes on forever. As x grows without bound, 1/x heads toward 0: the value shrinks endlessly but never quite arrives.
An infinite series adds endlessly many terms yet can land on a finite total. Halve, then halve again, forever: 1/2 + 1/4 + 1/8 + ... = 1. Each step covers half the gap that's left, so the sum sneaks up on 1 without ever overshooting.

When infinity shows up in the real world, it often means a model has hit its limit. Inside a black hole, the equations predict infinite density at the center — a singularity. Physicists read that not as a real measurement but as a sign the theory needs replacing.
Computing has its own version. In the halting problem, some programs run forever, and Alan Turing proved no single algorithm can decide in advance which programs will stop and which will loop endlessly.
