Masters of Bioluminescence

In the deep ocean, making your own light is not a party trick — it is a survival strategy. Roughly 80% of creatures below 200 meters produce bioluminescence through chemical reactions in specialized cells called photophores.

The anglerfish dangles a glowing lure to attract prey into its enormous jaws. Hatchetfish use belly-mounted light organs to match the faint glow from above, making themselves invisible to predators looking upward.
