Stateless Peoples and Borders

The Rohingya of Myanmar show how borders can be used as weapons. Denied citizenship where they have lived for generations, they became stateless, belonging nowhere on official maps.

Borders create surreal realities too. In Baarle-Hertog, the Belgian-Dutch boundary runs straight through individual houses. Some residents have their front door in one country and their back door in the other, with different tax rules and pub hours in each room.
