Geologists have identified at least a couple dozen sites, but only a handful are considered potentially active.
Well-known examples include **Yellowstone** in the United States, **Toba** in Indonesia, **Taupo** in New Zealand, and **Long Valley** in California. Most have not erupted at full scale for tens of thousands of years.
