A black hole with the Sun's mass would have the same gravitational pull as the Sun at the same distance. Earth would orbit it just fine — it would just be very dark and cold. The danger zone is close to the event horizon.

Black holes are also not holes or tunnels. The name is somewhat misleading. A black hole is a region of spacetime where gravity is so extreme that not even light can escape once it crosses the event horizon. What lies inside is one of physics' greatest unknowns.
