We watched it separate from the gas in a cluster collision
In the Bullet Cluster, two galaxy clusters caught mid-collision, the hot X-ray gas was slowed by the impact and dragged behind, but gravitational lensing shows most of the mass sailed straight through and ended up offset from that gas. Since the bulk of the gravity sits where almost no visible matter is, it must come from something that barely interacts with anything: dark matter.
