LESSON 1 · Medieval Life Uncut
Entertainment Was Wild
Medieval fun was brutal. Bear-baiting and public executions were family outings. Festivals featured football between villages with almost no rules, and jousting could be deadly for the knights who took part. Dice gambling was so widespread the Church failed to ban it.

The medieval world was harsh, filthy, and violent — but people still found ways to enjoy themselves. Traveling minstrels carried news between isolated villages, and mystery plays served as the primary form of theatrical entertainment.
