LESSON 4 · WWII: Secrets & Turning Points
Production Won the War
America didn't just fight WWII — it manufactured victory. In 1939, the U.S. Army ranked around 17th in the world, smaller than several minor European powers. By 1944, American factories were rolling out a new aircraft every five minutes and a new ship every day.
From 1941 to 1945, those factories produced 300,000 aircraft, 86,000 tanks, 2.4 million trucks, and 41 billion rounds of ammunition. No other nation came close. FDR called America the Arsenal of Democracy, and the numbers made the speech prophetic.
