LESSON 1 · Mysteries of the Nile
Vandalism with a Purpose
Walk through any Egyptian collection and you will notice something strange: almost every statue is missing its nose. Not coincidence. The deliberate removal of noses was spiritual warfare. Ancient Egyptians believed statues housed the ka, or life force. The nose let the ka breathe. Remove it, and the spirit suffocated inside its stone prison.

Three Thousand Years
Political rivals, conquering armies, and early Christians all targeted the nose. The same act repeats across three thousand years of Egyptian sacred monuments. Whoever wanted a god, a king, or an enemy silenced reached for the same vulnerable spot.
