With a small stick dipped into a pot of powder
Kohl was a fine powder kept in little pots or tubes. People applied it with a slim rod of wood, bone, or metal, drawing the powder along the lids to create those long, dark lines. These kohl pots and applicator sticks are among the most common everyday objects archaeologists still dig up today.
