In the Louvre Museum in Paris
After centuries buried at Susa, the towering black basalt stele was unearthed by archaeologists in 1901 and now stands in the Louvre. Above the laws, a carved scene shows Hammurabi receiving authority from Shamash, the sun god of justice.
