LESSON 5 · Ancient Greece Unmasked

The Search Continues

Modern theories about the tomb's location range from plausible to wild:

  • Beneath the Nabi Daniel Mosque, where Egyptian authorities won't allow excavation
  • Submerged in Alexandria's harbor, which has sunk several meters since antiquity
  • Secretly moved to Venice, where one theory claims the body was misidentified as St. Mark's remains and shipped to Italy in 828 AD

The man who conquered an empire from Greece to India can't be found in death. Somewhere under Alexandria — or perhaps another continent entirely — the most famous body in ancient history is still waiting.
