From Corsica to Command

Napoleon's rise is inseparable from the chaos of the French Revolution. A Corsican-born artillery officer with no aristocratic connections, he climbed through merit and opportunity at a time when traditional hierarchies had collapsed. His military brilliance showed early: in his first Italian campaign in 1796, he turned a demoralized, half-starved army into a conquering force, winning battle after battle against larger opponents.
