LESSON 2 · How the Economy Actually Works
Hyperinflation Nightmares
When inflation spirals completely out of control, the results are devastating. In Weimar Germany, prices doubled every few days, and workers rushed to spend their wages before lunch because the money would buy less by afternoon.
Venezuela's recent hyperinflation pushed millions to flee the country as their savings became worthless almost overnight. The bolivar lost nearly all of its value in just a few years, wiping out the middle class.
These extreme cases share common causes: governments printing money to cover spending they cannot fund through taxes, combined with collapsing confidence in the currency. Once trust breaks, recovery takes years or even decades.
