Why GDP Still Matters
Despite its flaws, GDP remains the most widely used economic indicator, because no single alternative captures as much about productive activity. Measures like the Human Development Index add health and education but sacrifice economic detail.
The wisest approach is to treat GDP as one vital sign among many — the way a doctor checks blood pressure alongside dozens of other readings. No single number can capture the health of something as complex as a national economy.
