Mixing Challenges
The hardest part of a mixed economy is finding the right balance for each sector and adjusting it over time. Too little regulation helped produce the 2008 financial crisis. Too much can strangle new industries before they mature.
Politics makes it harder. Interest groups lobby relentlessly for favorable treatment, and international competition adds more pressure: countries must keep taxes and rules competitive enough to retain businesses while still funding the public services citizens expect.
