Bounded Rationality

Herbert Simon showed that humans do not optimize — we satisfice, picking the first option that meets our minimum standards rather than exhaustively searching for the absolute best.

This makes perfect sense given our cognitive limitations. Evaluating every option would take infinite time. Our brains use shortcuts that work well enough most of the time but systematically fail in predictable ways that behavioral economists can now anticipate.
