LESSON 2 · The Future of Work & Money

Gig economy advocates point to unprecedented flexibility. Workers choose their hours, pick their projects, and act as their own boss. A driver can work mornings, take the afternoon off, and pick up evening shifts — something a traditional job rarely allows.

For parents, students, and people with health limits, that flexibility is genuinely valuable. Many combine several platforms to build careers that a single employer could never offer.

But the freedom story has limits. Algorithm-set pay, opaque rating systems, and no guaranteed minimum earnings mean gig freedom often comes without the stability needed for long-term financial planning.
