LESSON 3 · Ecosystems: How Nature Balances
Solar Energy Frontier
Deserts receive more solar radiation per square meter than any other biome, making them prime locations for renewable energy. The world's deserts together receive enough solar energy in just six hours to power all of humanity for a year.
Morocco built one of the world's largest concentrated solar plants, supplying clean electricity to over two million people. Saudi Arabia and Australia plan even larger desert farms that could export power as green hydrogen.
The challenge is balancing energy with ecosystem preservation. Solar farms must avoid disrupting wildlife corridors, vegetation, and the fragile soil crusts that take decades to form.
