LESSON 2 · Live Greener Without Going Crazy

Toward Circular Economy

A circular economy redesigns the whole system so waste barely exists. Instead of make-use-dispose, products are built to be repaired, refurbished, or broken cleanly back into raw materials. In practice that looks like:

  • Design for disassembly — snap-fit parts instead of glue, so devices come apart easily
  • Standardized materials — fewer plastic types, so sorting facilities can keep up
  • Deposit-return schemes — small refundable deposits drive bottle return rates above 90 percent in countries like Germany and Norway
  • Chemical recycling — emerging tech that breaks polymers back into building blocks, handling mixed plastics that normal recycling cannot
