LESSON 3 · Live Greener Without Going Crazy

Every food item carries a hidden water footprint most of us never see. Producing one kilogram of beef takes roughly 15,400 liters of water for feed, drinking, and processing. A single hamburger accounts for about 2,500 liters.

By contrast, a kilogram of vegetables needs about 300 liters on average. Rice uses around 2,500 liters per kilogram — less than beef, but a real strain in dry regions where it is a staple. In short, what you put on your plate is a water decision in disguise.
