LESSON 3 · Live Greener Without Going Crazy

System Change vs Individual Choice

Individual dietary change matters, but it is not enough on its own. The food system runs on subsidies, trade policies, and corporate practices that make unsustainable choices artificially cheap and convenient.

Governments subsidize livestock feed crops, which keeps meat artificially affordable. Redirecting that support toward sustainable farming would shift prices and behavior without relying on individual willpower. The strongest approach works on both levels: eat more plant-forward meals while pushing for policies that make sustainable food the default.
