LESSON 4 · Live Greener Without Going Crazy
Community Energy Power
Individual choices multiply when communities act together. Community solar programs let renters and homeowners without suitable rooftops buy shares in a shared solar installation and receive credits on their electricity bills.
Group projects also unlock economies of scale that individuals cannot reach: bulk purchasing for solar panels, heat pumps, and insulation lowers costs by roughly a fifth compared with going it alone. Some neighborhoods even build local microgrids that store and share renewable power, adding resilience during outages while cutting fossil fuel use.
