Sofonisba Anguissola
Anguissola became the first female Renaissance artist to achieve international fame while alive. Recruited to the Spanish court in the late 1550s, she earned royal pensions and a dowry from King Philip II — proving that talent could occasionally overcome the barriers excluding women from professional art.
