These small choices added up into the canon we inherited. Each time a woman's painting was reassigned, renamed, or shelved, the official history of art looked a little more male — and that history then taught the next generation what to expect.

The fix is not to invent new stars. It is to read the evidence honestly and credit the painters who were there all along.
