Messages from Beyond

Af Klint did not see herself as the author of these paintings. She made them during séances, believing the images were dictated by spirits she called the High Ones.

She led a circle of five women who met to channel messages through automatic drawing — letting the hand move without conscious control. The strange, glowing forms that emerged had no clear precedent in the art around them.
