Spain's wildly colorful illustrated guides to Revelation
Centuries before Dürer, monks in medieval Spain copied a commentary on Revelation by a monk named Beatus. Their painted versions burst with flat, vivid color and bold patterns, turning the apocalypse into some of the boldest art of the early Middle Ages.
