The Ghent Altarpiece — over a dozen panels
The Ghent Altarpiece is a folding polyptych with more than a dozen painted panels that open to reveal a crowded sacred scene. Begun by Jan's brother Hubert and finished by Jan in 1432, it packs the same jewel-like detail into a structure several meters wide.
