LESSON 8 · Banned: Books They Tried to Silence

Bradbury's Universe

Bradbury wrote nearly 600 short stories, plus dozens of novels, plays, and screenplays. He never learned to drive, used libraries instead of owning many books, and wrote every day from age twelve until his death at 91. His other works — The Martian Chronicles, Something Wicked This Way Comes, The Illustrated Man — established him as one of science fiction's greatest prose stylists. Fahrenheit 451 has been adapted into a 1966 Truffaut film, a 2018 HBO version, and countless stage productions, and it inspired real book-preservation projects.
