Trimalchio in West Egg
Fitzgerald wanted to name the book after Trimalchio, a flashy nouveau-riche party host from the ancient Roman novel Satyricon. His editor, Maxwell Perkins, argued readers would not get the reference, and the two settled on The Great Gatsby just before publication.
