Disguises and Identities

In Paris the Count moves under several identities — the Count himself, the priest Abbé Busoni, and the Englishman Lord Wilmore. Each mask opens a different door and lets him gather secrets from a different angle. But the disguises raise a sharp question: after fourteen years in prison and three invented lives, who is Edmond Dantès now? The sailor died in the Château d'If, and the Count is something he built. Revenge may have cost him his true self.
