LESSON 1 · A Literary World Tour
Greece's Gift
Greek storytelling structured the way the entire Western world processes experience through narrative. Flawed, passionate gods made the universe comprehensible by giving chaos recognizable motivations. The arc from hubris to downfall became the foundational narrative structure for tragedy, political drama, and cautionary tales across every culture that encountered it. Greek tragedy invented emotional healing through fiction — the idea that catharsis through art can process pain that direct experience cannot safely address. This insight remains the operating principle behind every theater, film, and novel that asks audiences to feel deeply.
