Soyinka's Theater

Wole Soyinka fused Yoruba ritual with Western drama. His play Death and the King's Horseman stages a real event: a colonial officer stops a ritual suicide, calling it mercy. Soyinka frames that "rescue" as a catastrophic act of cultural violence — proof that good intentions can still tear a worldview apart.
