The Thriller's Evolution

The Da Vinci Code spawned a whole subgenre of "intellectual thrillers" — mystery plots fused with art history, religious scholarship, or science. Authors like James Rollins and Steve Berry built careers on the model.

More importantly, it showed that information can work as suspense. The pleasure of a chapter is not violence or romance but discovery — learning something about art, history, or religion. That insight shaped everything from podcasts to prestige TV, where dense information became a draw rather than a drawback.
