LESSON 3 · Overhyped or Underrated?

The Tiger's Gift

Life of Pi works on several levels at once and rewards different readers differently. On the surface it is a thrilling survival story — tense, vivid, and physically gripping. The second story reframes it all as a way of processing trauma, with the tiger as a projection of Pi's own survival instinct. Deeper still is the argument that truth and meaning are not the same thing: a story can be factually false yet emotionally essential. Readers face a hard choice — accept the comforting, beautiful version or demand the accurate, devastating one.
