Soma
**Soma** dissolves anxiety on demand and leaves no hangover, so the World State never has to use force — citizens medicate away discomfort on their own, and comfort becomes the cage. The drug is not truly harmless, though: Dr. Shaw admits it costs users 'a few years,' and Linda dies after slipping into a permanent soma-holiday.
